Heather has a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and is a Functional Nutrition Health Coach, certified by the Functional Nutrition Alliance. Heather’s unique approach considers the psychology behind our food choices, working at uncovering the how and why we eat, not just what. Her approach also views clients as a whole person coming to her with a unique set of lived experiences and stories that all come into play when working at healing ourselves on a deep level.
The Functional approach looks to uncover the root cause of imbalances in the body and mind. Many of us suffer from symptoms such as fatigue, inability to focus, pain and digestive issues. These chronic symptoms can leave us feeling hopeless and resigned to a poor quality of life. Many symptoms of chronic illness can be alleviated or eliminated by changes in nutrition, lifestyle and mindset.
Heather is also a BFYB Certified Teacher. The Befriending Your Body Somatic Self Compassion approach teaches the skills of embodiment and self compassion for disordered eating and making peace with your body, food and self. This practice is grounded in the polyvagal theory and the evidenced-based practices of Interoceptive Awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness.
Heather is passionate about challenging diet culture and supporting her clients in cultivating a healthy relationship with their body and food from a place of self compassion. Heather’s EMPOWER framework uses mindfulness, self-kindness and connection to support clients in developing the self compassion that is needed to make meaningful change in their relationships with food and their bodies. Through the empowered door we can free ourselves of guilt and shame and tune in to our inner knowing from a place of understanding.
